Assessment Fee Schedule Announced
For over ten years the Massachusetts State Referee Committee (MSRC) has made every effort to provide assessments without charge to the referee. We have been able to accomplish this largely because of an operating surplus of available funds from other program endeavors. We can no longer rely on that surplus.
Therefore, effective immediately for the 2004 soccer year, the MSRC has instituted the following fee structure for referee assessments:
- The MSRC will continue to provide, free of charge to the referee: any assessment(s) for the purpose of Development and Guidance; and/or any assessment(s) for the purpose of upgrading to grade 7.
- The MSRC will continue to provide, free of charge to the referee, required assessment(s) for the purpose of upgrading to or maintaining grade 6 or above, provided that the referee's performance was judged acceptable.
- If the performance of the referee was judged as not acceptable, then subsequent "make-up" assessments will be charged to the referee. Current USSF policy requires the referee to receive one passing assessment as an offset for each assessment failed.
- A grade 6 or grade 5 referee, or anyone seeking upgrade to grade 6 or 5, shall be charged the fee of $150 for each failed assessment. This is to cover the cost of additional assessments required.
- A National referee or grade 5 National Candidate shall be charged the fee of $200 for each failed assessment, when additional assessments are required.
Note that these fees will be charged to the referee before further assessments will be authorized. Referees who determine not to continue to seek the higher grade will not be charged.
Please contact the State Director of Assessment if you have any questions about these policies.
