Large soccer organizations require the services of volunteers who make possible the games played on a weekly basis. The Massachusetts referee community is such an organization that has long been the beneficiary of hard-working volunteers who give of themselves for the good of the whole program. One tireless worker has stepped into a new role: Marc Lamoureux of Leicester has been appointed by Mass Youth Soccer as the new State Youth Referee Administrator (SYRA).
Observing Lamoureux's referee career provides a glimpse of the drive that he has and the passion for doing things well. Since his initial certification in 1994, Lamoureux has risen to become a State Referee, certified as a high school and college official, and been selected to referee in professional leagues in the region. Along the way, he has given countless weekends in support of youth tournaments -- Mass. Tournament of Champions, State Cup, and District Select. In recognition of his professional attitude and hard work, he has been appointed to represent the state at both youth and adult tournaments for Region I in recent years.
Beyond his work on the field, Lamoureux has been a valuable contributor to the referee program off the field. As an organized and diligent Area Referee Administrator (ARA) for four years, Lamoureux combined with Randy Croteau and Tom Comiskey to serve the referees of Central Massachusetts. The three developed a strong relationship with referees, league administrators, and referee assignors which has resulted in an efficient program of education and development in the central part of the state.
We are fortunate to have Marc step forward to take on a bigger challenge as SYRA, and we know he will continue to be a terrific contributor. Please join us in welcoming him to his new post. He can be reached via e-mail.
